One of the most uncomfortable feelings in the world is a dry scalp that feels tight and itchy. If your scalp feels like this, you know all too well what’s around the bend…dandruff! Not only that, when your scalp is dry and itchy, it slows down your hair growth and that’s something we definitely don’t want.
A Natural Way to Restore Your Scalp
There’s absolutely no need to spend too much on overpriced scalp serums with toxic ingredients. You can achieve beautiful results with a homemade scalp moisturizer that harnesses the power of natural ingredients instead. This moisturizer uses castor oil, coconut oil, and olive oil, along with some essential oils thrown in for good measure.
Castor oil is a natural and safe lubricant that prevents fungal infections in your scalp which are one of the causes for dryness. Coconut oil is one of those awesome ingredients you should always have around in your home for cooking healthfully as well as for beauty remedies.
It has the power to penetrate deep into the scalp and is filled with enriching fatty acids. Olive oil also goes deep and helps keep hair from falling out while strengthening the shaft of your hair.
We’ve also added some essential oils to the recipe. Tea tree essential oil is seen in many shampoos on the market because it’s amazing for getting rid of dandruff, plus it keeps your scalp itch-free. Lavender essential oil is soothing and helps stimulate hair growth, and rosemary essential oil also stimulates hair growth, improves circulation to the scalp and makes hair extra shiny and bouncy.
Are You Ready for Better Hair Naturally?
By nourishing your scalp with this homemade scalp moisturizer, you’ll be making your hair from root to tip so much healthier. You should make sure you have a shower cap as well as sulfate-free shampoo to follow with when you rinse the moisturizer out.
You’ll also need about an hour of down-time to let it soak in so find a good book to read or get your Netflix ready. For the best results, you’ll want to do this 3 times a week and when you do, you’re going to be so excited to have softer, longer, stronger hair and a healthy, irritation-free scalp.
How to Make Your Homemade Scalp Moisturizer
Follow this simple recipe for a healthier, hydrated and flake-free scalp!
2 tbsp coconut oil
1 tbsp castor oil
2 tbsp olive oil
4 drops tea tree essential oil
3 drops lavender essential oil
3 drops rosemary essential oil
Here’s how to do it:
1. Take a small bowl and fill it with the castor oil, coconut oil, and olive oil.
2. Place this small bowl inside either a larger bowl or a pan filled with hot water so the heat will gently melt the oils without burning them.
3. Once this blend of oils feels warm to the touch, take the small bowl out of the water and stir in the rosemary, lavender, and tea tree essential oils.
4. Use it immediately.
Tips for Using Your Homemade Scalp Moisturizer
To use this homemade scalp moisturizer effectively drizzle it while warm onto your scalp to saturate it. A spoon is helpful for this step. Then, massage it into your scalp in circular motions with your fingertips for 5 minutes. Cover your head with the shower cap and let it sit for an hour.
After an hour, wash your hair using your sulfate-free shampoo. You might need to repeat the shampooing to remove all the oils, but you won’t need conditioner because your hair will be soft, conditioned and amazing. Try it!
