There is nothing more calming than a long soak in the tub after a stressful day, but how do you take a relaxing bubble bath to the next level? It’s all in the mood, preparation, and products.
Set the Mood
Harsh bathroom lighting diminishes the relaxation of a bubble bath. To start, dim the overhead lights if possible, and place candles around the tub and on the counter: soft candlelight creates the perfect backdrop for a relaxing bubble bath. Plug your music player into a set of portable speakers and turn on your favorite play list, pour a glass of wine, ice water, or tea, and grab your favorite book.
Apply a Face Mask
A relaxing bubble bath is the perfect opportunity to pamper yourself with a face mask. The steam from the bath opens up your pores, allowing products to sink in deeply, while the relaxing bubble bath makes sitting around with a face mask on much more enjoyable. Remove any traces of makeup with an oil or balm cleanser, and follow this with a glycolic acid toner.
While skin is still slightly damp, apply your favorite facemask with a flat, clean makeup brush. This allows for smooth application and minimizes the bacteria, dirt, and oils your skin is exposed to. Clay masks are perfect for oilier skin or those suffering from clogged pores while a moisturizing mask quickly erases signs of dryness for those with parched skin.
As your bathwater runs, dry brush your entire body, starting at your ankles and working your way upwards in circular motions. Dry brushing sloughs off dead skin cells, allowing your bath products to penetrate your skin deeply, and stimulates the skin, leaving your body soft and glowing.
Essential oils and bath oils are the perfect addition to a relaxing bubble bath. Choose a scent that puts your mind at ease and add a few drops while the water is still running, allowing the oil to disperse evenly throughout the water. Your chosen scent will permeate the entire room, while the oil will add moisture and radiance to your skin.
Relaxing Bath Additives
Top off your bath with heavenly bubbles, using your foot to mix the product into the water while the bathtub is filling up. Bath bombs, decadently scented and infused with moisturizing ingredients, bump up the bubbles or create their own. Between essential oil, bubbles, and a bath bomb, your relaxing bubble bath is ready for you to slide right in.
Take a good, long soak, enjoying a book or listening to music. Roll a towel and set this on the back edge of the tub to act as a pillow, and enjoy yourself!
When the water turns tepid, step out and dry off gently with a cotton towel. Remove the face mask with a washcloth drenched in warm water, and apply a serum and moisturizer immediately. Finish with a generous coating of your favorite body lotion or butter from the neck down and don your most comfortable set of pajamas.
