Dual Maids of Honor? Two Best Men?

Dual Maids of Honor? Two Best Men?

Choosing a wedding party for your special event can be very exciting. After all, you are asking the people closest to you to stand with you on one of the most important days of your life. However, some brides and grooms find themselves facing a tough decision of who to invite to be the maid of honor or best man. Fortunately, with evolving traditions, choosing just one maid of honor or best man is a thing of the past!

Dual Maids of Honor

Whether you have two close sisters, two best friends, or a sibling and a best friend that you just can’t seem to choose between, you can ask both to serve as dual maids of honor. Having dual maids of honor allows you to express how important each one is to you and helps them by allowing them to share in the maid of honor duties.

The maid of honor’s responsibilities typically include planning the bridal shower and bachelorette party as well as ensuring that the bridesmaids get their dresses fitted. Having two maids of honor, they can split up these duties or work on them together.

When selecting dresses for your bridal party, you can have the bridesmaids wear one style, while the maids of honor wear another. By choosing this option, you can differentiate the maids of honor from the other bridesmaids.

During the wedding procession, the maid of honor is typically the last of the bride’s attendants to walk out before the bride. While you can have each maid of honor walk separately, with the one who will be closest to you during the ceremony going last, consider having them walk down the aisle together. During the ceremony, you can split up the maid of honor duties by asking one maid of honor to adjust your train after you have walked down the aisle and asking the other to hold your bouquet while exchanging rings or participating in a wedding rite that requires free hands.

Arranging your maids of honor in the recessional depends on the number of groomsmen your fiancé has selected. If there are fewer groomsmen than bridal attendants, the best man can escort both maids of honor down the aisle. If there an equal number of attendants in each party, each maid of honor will walk down with a different groomsmen.

Dual Best Men

If your fiancé has two close brothers, best friends, or a close brother and best friend, and can’t seem to make up his mind, he can ask both to serve as his best men. As with dual maids of honor, you may have to split up the responsibilities of the best men.

Typically, the best man plans the bachelor party. Two best men can tackle the planning together, take responsibility for different activities during the event ,or leave the planning to the other. The groom will have to make some decisions about which best man will perform each duty at the wedding. For example, you may choose to have one best man hold on to the wedding rings, while the other best man signs the wedding certificate, or put one best man in charge of tipping the vendors.

If you want your best men stand out from the rest of the groomsmen, you may consider choosing different color vests and ties (or bow ties) for them. For example, if the groomsmen are wearing red vests, you could select silver vests for the best men.

Things to Consider

If you are thinking about having dual maids of honor or best men, there are some things to consider. First, think about the size of your wedding party:  you should only have dual maids of honor or best men if you have five or more people in each party. If you have two maids of honor and only one bridesmaid, it could potentially lead to hurt feelings.

When asking your friends or siblings if they would like to be your maids of honor or best men, take both of them out to dinner to share your exciting decision. This will make them both feel included and let them know how much you care about each of them.

Choosing a maid of honor or best man is an important decision. By selecting dual maids of honor or best men, you can avoid the stress of choosing between two of the most important people in your life and enjoy your special day knowing that you didn’t have to!
